Join Backcountry Women for an evening workshop to learn all about preparing amazing trail food!

It's time to start prepping your food for this season's adventures. Come learn everything you need to know to dehydrate, pack and enjoy nutritious and delicious food on the trail.  Learn..

  • What to look for in a dehydrator and what accessories are helpful
  • What foods can and can’t be dehydrated
  • Pros and cons of dehydrating full meals vs individual ingredients
  • How to prep foods – blanching, dipping, checking
  • What temperature to use for different foods
  • How to tell when food is dry
  • How to store dried food
  • How to pack dried food for trips
  • How to re-hydrate dried food on the trail
  • Tips, tricks and favorite recipes from the trail

We’ll swap stories, share recipes, answer questions and give you a chance to create and re-hydrate your own dish. Bring your favorite bowl and spork to make your own tasty meal and experience how it's done.

Facilitators Getty Stewart & Katie Anderson 
Getty and Katie are experienced backcountry women who love the outdoors as much as they love good food. Trained as a Professional Home Economist and pastry chef, Getty and Katie combine their backcountry experience, training in food safety, dehydrating prowess and culinary expertise to ensure the food you pack is tasty, safe, nourishing and easy to prep on the trail. They're also highly entertaining and full of great stories about their previous and upcoming adventures.

Time & location: The workshop begins promptly at 7:00 PM CST. We have moved this workshop online!

This will be an interactive online workshop 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm CST. Participants will need a free Zoom account. Further instructions will be emailed out to participants; please download and test your account access in advance (at least an hour prior to the start time of the workshop). Participants will receive the course handouts prior to the workshop. In lieu of taste testing, we're adding extra recipes to the handout, including a great mix of breakfast, lunch & snack and dinner recipes! There will be plenty of interaction and opportunities for Q & A throughout!
