Regarding COVID-19: Due to the numbers placed on gathering restrictions, we need your cooperation in only signing up for events that you can truly commit to attending.

Masks are mandatory when gathering at the beginning and end of our events. Additionally, we strongly recommend masks be worn during the activity (but are not required as long as physical distance is being maintained) - if group members are closer than 6 feet apart they MUST wear a mask covering their mouth and nose. Please review our full Covid-19 policy and safety practices here

DEADLINE TO REGISTER: BY MIDNIGHT, THREE DAYS BEFORE THE EVENT (FEB. 26).

PLEASE READ THE REQUIREMENTS AND ALL DETAILS BELOW PRIOR TO REGISTRATION.

The Starlight Snowshoe is all about getting outdoors on weeknights to enjoy the silence and beauty of winter. Snowshoeing is also a great way to socialize with other like-minded women, explore urban parks in and around Winnipeg and incorporate some low-impact activity into your day!

*Snowshoes are not mandatory to participate in this activity, but are highly recommended. It is the responsibility of the participant to bring their own snowshoes should they wish to give snowshoeing a try. If you do not have a pair of your own, we encourage you to rent a pair or borrow from a friend.

Event leader: Jessica Burtnick accompanied by Reggie the Siberian husky. Click link for bio!

Arrival Time: 6:15 PM. We will begin to snowshoe no later than 6:30 PM. The time arranged allows for you to have time to attend to personal needs such as organizing your gear and for the event leader to share information with the group.

Location: Kildonan Park contains an urban river bottom forest that is home to some of the province's most ancient trees. It is an important Trans Canada Trail link that winds along the banks of the Red River. Backcountry Women acknowledges that this hike will take place on Treaty 1 Territory.

Overall Difficulty Rating: Due to the factors mentioned below, this activity is rated a 1/5.

This rating is subject to change based on prevailing conditions at the time of the activity, including but not limited to weather.

Duration/Distance: Approximately 4 km or 1-1.5 hours, depending on selected route.
Experience: All skill levels are welcome. You should have the ability to snowshoe or walk with the group (while physically distancing) at a slow to moderate, steady pace for the duration of the activity. We will take breaks as needed. Appropriate footwear and layered clothing is required.
Terrain:
Relatively flat within an urban park.
Pace: This activity will be at a steady, slow to moderate pace.

There will be a dog accompanying this activity. This activity permits a limited number of registered participants to bring their well-behaved dogs, on a first-come-first-served basis. If you want to bring your dog, please select the “Member Registration with Dog” option at time of registration; you will be required to check-in with the event leader once registered, prior to the event. If you don’t have a dog or puppy friend of your own, this is a great opportunity to experience the joy and benefits of an animal companion! For more info on dogs at our events, please read our FAQ page.

Further details will be provided to registered participants. Participants are responsible for having a valid e-mail address, communicating with the event organizer regarding any changes in attendance, and for checking e-mail prior to an event.

This event allows cancellation no less than 3 days before start of event. If you are no longer able to attend, please see our Cancellation Policy.
